چکیده

Evoked otoacoustic emissions (EOAEs) are currently used as the most reliable test for hearing screening. The presence of emission is commonly detected by the visual inspection of the signals and the cross-correlation function between replicate responses recorded in the same conditions. Performances of these methods are greatly influenced by the residual noise level. Residual noise is often of low frequency and can be reduced by digital off-line filtering. For this purpose, an optimal high-pass filtering technique is proposed here. Crosscorrelation between replicates of transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) was used to determine the cut-off frequency that maximises the S/N ratio. This will be shown in a series of responses characterised by various S/N ratios. Data have been scored both visually and with quantitative methods before and after the use of high-pass filtering. The capability to detect the signal was increased with only a marginal decrease in the total power of the emissions.

The relationship between ultra-high frequency thresholds and transient evoked otoacoustic emissions in adults with tinnitus

Background: The possible role of cochlear function in tinnitus generation is still a matter of debate. To assess the role of outer hair cell dysfunction in tinnitus and its possible relationship with ultra-high frequency (UHF) hearing sensitivity, transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) and UHF hearing thresholds were investigated in normal hearing individuals with and withou...

The role of intermodulation distortion in transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions.

Transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) are low-intensity sounds recorded in the external ear canal immediately following stimulation by a transient stimulus, typically a click. While the details of their production is unknown, there is evidence to suggest that the amplitude of each component frequency reflects the physiological condition of the corresponding region of the cochlea. Cert...

Transient Evoked and Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions in a Group of Neonates

Introduction The most commonly used method in neonatal hearing screening programs is transient evoked otoacoustic emissions in the first stage of the process. There are few studies comparing transient evoked otoacoustic emissions with distortion product, but some authors have investigated the issue. Objective To correlate the results of transient evoked and distortion product otoacoustic emissi...

Enhancement of the transient-evoked otoacoustic emission produced by the addition of a pure tone in the guinea pig.

This study examined the transient-evoked otoacoustic emission obtained in response to a click stimulus presented in combination with a pure tone in the guinea pig. Low-pass filtered click waveforms were digitally generated using a sin(t)/t function windowed over 3 ms with an elevated cosine envelope. Transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions were obtained using the nonlinear derived response techn...

High Frequency Tympanometry (1,000 Hz) for Neonates with Normal and Abnormal Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES This paper aimed at evaluating the characteristics of high-frequency (1,000 Hz) acoustic admittance (ya) for the neonates with transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) as either pass or refer group. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Using a 1,000 Hz probe tone, 297neonates (152 male, 145 female aged 0-104 days old) were evaluated. Tympanometric parameters admittance value a...
